Niin telosi Bernadette Ward! My Mikmaq name is “Daughter of the Dawn.” I am a proud member of Metepenagiag First Nation, the Village of Thirty Centuries. I graduated with Honours from St. Thomas University’s Mi’kmaq Maliseet Bachelor of Social Work Program in 2020. I’ve spent the last four years helping children and their families heal! Now, in the MSW program at Wilfrid Laurier University Indigenous Field of Study, I am excited to strengthen my counselling skills and broaden my knowledge of healing. I am also concentrating on working in play therapy, and I can not wait to support your little ones in playing through their big emotions and finding regulation within. On our journey, I look forward to supporting your child and you!
Fun Fact: Those are my Auntie Margaret’s Moccasins!

Counselling / Psychology / Mental Health (Miramichi Area or Virtual Care), Play Therapy / Child Counselling (Miramichi Area), Social Work (Miramichi Area or Virtual Care)
I have twenty years of experience in ‘holding space’ for people. During that time, I have learned the importance of leaning into difficult spaces and sitting with others in pain. I look for every opportunity to create safety in relationships so that others can share their story with me. I have an MSW from Laurier University, and I have training with Gabor Mate (Compassionate Inquiry) and Stephen Porges (Polyvagal Theory). I am presently working on my SandTray Certification and Play Therapy Certification. I also have BrainSpotting Certification. Ask me about my Trauma Wand!
With my continued training and capacity to offer a wide range of modalities, I have a unique skill set to meet your individual needs! Everyone and every age is welcome! Most importantly, I want you to know that “All of you is Accepted!”

Virtual Counselling
Over the course of my journey as a social worker, I have dedicated over 15 years to the field of mental health. I take this role seriously and pursue ongoing training to build on the skills necessary to assist you in improving your quality of life. Recently, I have seen people, who are struggling, benefit from online counselling. Providing services virtually has allowed me to channel my passion for wellness while committing to the well-being of those I serve. My approach to counselling is grounded in genuineness, empathy, partnership, and deep respect for your personal journey. I strive to create a safe, supportive space where you can explore, grow, and take control over your life. If you are struggling, know that you don’t have to do it alone. I will be honoured to walk alongside you as we navigate through your unique life challenges.
